HEIC High Efficiency Image Container
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It uses HEVC compression to store photos at roughly half the size of JPG, but support outside Apple devices is patchy.
HEIC converterBMP Windows Bitmap
BMP is the uncompressed bitmap format native to Windows. Files are large because each pixel is stored raw, but almost every program, embedded device and legacy system can read it.

Why convert HEIC to BMP?
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads, so it appears whenever photos are AirDropped, emailed or copied to a PC. Windows, Android apps, websites and most upload forms cannot open it without conversion. Choose BMP only when a legacy program or device needs uncompressed bitmaps.

You can also cap the width and height, which resizes large photos in the same step.
Frequently asked questions
Will the BMP lose quality?
BMP is lossless, so the conversion keeps every pixel or sample that is in your HEIC file. It cannot bring back detail that HEIC compression already removed, and the BMP file will usually be larger.
Will the BMP be smaller than the HEIC?
No, usually larger for photos: as a rough guide, the BMP comes out at around 50× the size of the HEIC, depending on the quality setting.
