Frequently asked questions

These answers apply to every converter and tool on DashUtils. Questions about a specific format pair are answered on that converter’s page.

Privacy and cost

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are opened and processed inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so the tools also work for private and confidential files.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark, credit system or daily limit. Because processing happens on your device there is no server cost per file, and the site is funded by advertising shown outside the tool area.

Do you keep copies or logs of my files?

We never receive your files, so there is nothing to keep. Our hosting provider sees ordinary request data such as your IP address and the pages you open; see the privacy policy for details.

Limits and speed

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit; files are processed in your browser’s memory. Images and PDFs of a few hundred megabytes work on most computers. For video, up to about 2 GB works in desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox, while phones and older laptops are happier with files under 500 MB.

How long does a video conversion take?

When the streams can be copied into the new container (Smart mode), it takes seconds. Re-encoding runs at a fraction of real time: in our tests a 10-second 1080p clip took about three minutes on a mid-range laptop and under two minutes at 720p. Choosing a lower resolution is the quickest way to speed it up.

Can I convert many files at once?

Image converters, the compressor and the resizer accept batches: drop as many files as you like and download them individually or as one ZIP. Video and audio tools process one file at a time, because each conversion uses most of your processor.

Why is the first run slower?

Some tools download their engine the first time you use them: the video engine is about 30 MB, and the background remover’s AI model is larger still. Your browser caches them, so later runs start immediately.

Browsers and devices

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile. AVIF encoding, video conversion and the background remover need a reasonably recent device; on older phones, use smaller files.
