Two AI models
Fast mode uses MODNet, a 13 MB portrait-matting model that is quick even on phones and excels at people. High quality mode uses BiRefNet Lite, a larger (about 115 MB) general segmentation model that handles products, animals and complex edges. Both are downloaded once and then cached by your browser.
Speed and privacy
Processing runs on your graphics card through WebGPU when available, and falls back to WebAssembly otherwise. No photo ever leaves your device, which makes it suitable for ID photos and unreleased products.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are decoded and processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which also makes the tool fast for large batches.
Is the background remover really free?
Yes. Because the AI runs on your device there are no per-image server costs, so there are no credits, watermarks or resolution limits.
Why is the first run slower?
The AI model has to be downloaded the first time. After that it is cached and processing starts immediately.
