Target size mode
Government portals, job applications and exam forms often require photos under 20, 50, 100 or 200 KB. In target size mode the compressor runs a binary search over quality and, if needed, steps the dimensions down until the file fits. You always see the real final size before downloading.
How compression works
JPG and WebP are re-encoded with lossy compression, which removes detail that is hard to see. PNG is lossless, so for PNG files the best savings usually come from converting to WebP (which keeps transparency) or reducing dimensions. If a result would be larger than the original, the original is kept and marked as already optimised.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are decoded and processed by your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which also makes the tool fast for large batches.
How do I compress an image to 100 KB?
Switch to Target size, enter 100 and compress. For very large photos the tool also reduces the dimensions slightly to reach the target while keeping the image sharp.
Does compression remove EXIF data?
Yes. Re-encoding drops EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera details, which also saves a few kilobytes.
