HEIC High Efficiency Image Container
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It uses HEVC compression to store photos at roughly half the size of JPG, but support outside Apple devices is patchy.

PNG stores pixels with lossless DEFLATE compression and a full 8-bit alpha channel. It is the safe default for screenshots, logos, UI assets and anything with sharp edges or text, because every pixel survives exactly as drawn.

Why convert HEIC to PNG?
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads, so it appears whenever photos are AirDropped, emailed or copied to a PC. Windows, Android apps, websites and most upload forms cannot open it without conversion. Choose PNG when you need exact pixels or transparency, for example to keep editing the image or place it on a coloured background.

You can also cap the width and height, which resizes large photos in the same step.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PNG lose quality?
PNG is lossless, so the conversion keeps every pixel or sample that is in your HEIC file. It cannot bring back detail that HEIC compression already removed, and the PNG file will usually be larger.
Will the PNG be smaller than the HEIC?
No, usually larger for photos: as a rough guide, the PNG comes out at around 18× the size of the HEIC, depending on the quality setting.
