WebP Web Picture format
WebP is Google's web image format. It supports both lossy and lossless compression plus alpha transparency, and typically produces files 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at similar visual quality. Every current browser displays it.
WebP converterAVIF AV1 Image File Format
AVIF stores images with the AV1 video codec. It usually beats WebP on file size, handles HDR and wide colour, and supports transparency. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari 16+ display it.

Why convert WebP to AVIF?
WebP files mostly arrive when you save an image from a website, because Chrome and most large sites now serve WebP instead of JPG or PNG. Older desktop software, some print shops and many upload forms still reject it. Choose AVIF for the smallest web images, after checking that your CMS or upload target accepts it.
WebP to AVIF settings
Use the quality slider to balance size against detail; 80 to 90 percent is a good default for AVIF. Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame. You can also cap the width and height, which resizes large photos in the same step.
Frequently asked questions
Will the AVIF lose quality?
Both formats are lossy, so converting re-encodes the data once more. Using a high quality setting keeps the generational loss very small. Avoid converting the same file back and forth repeatedly.
Is transparency kept when converting WebP to AVIF?
Yes. AVIF supports transparency, so transparent areas in your WebP stay transparent.
Will the AVIF be smaller than the WebP?
Usually a little smaller for photos: as a rough guide, the AVIF comes out at around 75% of the WebP's size, depending on the quality setting.
