What is a SVG file?

SVG describes shapes, paths and text as XML instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. It is the standard for logos and icons on the web. It is a lossless format best suited to logos, icons and illustrations that must scale. The main drawback is that many apps, social networks and office tools only accept raster images like PNG or JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Will the JPG lose quality?

No. The SVG is drawn fresh at the width you choose, so the JPG is sharp at that size apart from normal compression at the quality you set. It only looks soft if it is later enlarged beyond that width.

Is transparency kept when converting SVG to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid colour. White is used by default; you can pick any background colour in the options before converting.
